U13A rugby v Belhaven Hill

We welcomed Belhaven to St. Mary’s this week and it was a beautiful cold sunny day. The boys knew we would be taking on a big, well skilled Belhaven side who had been sweeping teams aside with ease in recent weeks. The team was forced into some last minute changes and there was an opportunity for others to step up and lead on the pitch. The boys looked a little shell shocked in the opening few minutes and struggled to get a foothold in the match. However, after a few scores had been conceded our lads began to show a little fight. We managed to keep the ball for multiple phases and made some good progress up the pitch. We had our work cut out for us at the breakdown and found it hard to clear their poachers, who stopped our attacks with turnover after turnover. Credit to the boys on the pitch who never gave up and in the second half scored a well-deserved try after some excellent running and footwork from Ewan. Ultimately we were beaten by a better team and we can be proud of our efforts in the second half.

Player of the match – Ewan and Fergus C. who were brave and committed to attack and defence. Well done boys.
