U9 Hockey Tournament at Ardvreck

Wednesday 3rd November 2021

Great excitement as at last we were travelling away for a fixture.  We arrived at Ardvreck, Crieff on a beautiful autumn day, sun shining and fantastic views of the Trossachs.

Ardvreck 3 Nov (1)

First, we played Ardvreck U9A, Lizzie this week’s captain won the toss and chose first push back. As with last week the girls utilised the whole pitch, demonstrating good awareness of their team mate’s positioning and passing before being tackled.  They dominated play and although Ardvreck defended well, St Mary’s scored a number of times.  During the 20-minute match the girls changed positions demonstrating their ability to play in both attacking and defensive roles. Final score St Mary’s 6 – Ardvreck 0
The second game was against Ardvreck U9B team.  The decision was taken to mix the teams resulting in an evenly contested competition.  Play moved between the teams and at the end of 20 minutes both teams had scored goals. Final result 2 all.
The final game was against Fettes, by now the girls were warmed up and working well as a team.  They moved the ball effectively around the pitch, running into space to receive the ball, reading play well and passing before being tackled. When Fettes attacked our defence came to meet them, before they could move into our defensive D.  Final score St Mary’s 5 – Fettes 0
An excellent afternoon of hockey was enjoyed by all and this outweighed the long journey we had undertaken to get there.
Well done, Lizzie (C) (2), Mary, Grace (6), Stella (1), Annie (2), Holly (4).
