U13B vs Cargilfield 06/10/2021

After last week’s fixture being postponed, the boys were very excited for their first away fixture of the season, the weather was perfect and boys were ready to get underway.

The hosts kicked off which St. Mary’s were able to secure the ball and work a couple phases but due to the numbers Cargilfield were putting into the rucks and the speed they were getting there at; it was difficult to keep the ball for long periods of time. This was a big challenge in the first half. After a bit of correcting at half time St. Mary’s really took it to them, carrying strong and staying in control of the ball meant offloading was a good option and with good support running St. Mary’s were able to score a couple of tries in the second half through Angus and Callum. The boys lost the second half 12-14 but this showed great character and determination to turn it around after the first half.

Key things to work on would be organisation and spacing in defence, staying connected to force the opposition to play around the outside, one on one tackles we will continue to work on as well.

Player of the match Angus M – for great support leading up to his try and great passing from the back of the scrums and rucks.
