1ST VIII v Dollar
Wednesday 29th September
St. Mary’s 3, Dollar Academy 1
Following the frustrations of our game last week with Cargilfield, today the girls knew what slight changes they needed to make and I was delighted to see those come to fruition. Again, their work rate was super and they came away with a thoroughly deserved win.
The first half was evenly contested with both teams enjoying time in possession. Dollar were well structured and passed the ball very efficiently, as were we but perhaps the difference was our individual ability on the ball. The girls, without exception, showed some lovely stick skills, which enabled them to make direct inroads into the Dollar half. We took the lead towards the end of the half, courtesy of a flowing move involving most members of the team; Olivia was the name on the score sheet.
A bit of a goalmouth scramble lead to the Dollar equalizer, fairly early on in the second half and the scores remained locked at 1 – 1 for the next ten minutes. Again, both defences held firm and it took a bit of individual brilliance from Olivia to break the deadlock and give us a 2 – 1 lead. Jemima then cropped up in the right place to extend our lead as the game drew to a close.
Every member of the team played their part today. Beattie again had a super game in goal and undoubtedly kept us in the running in the game’s early stages. Zara and Lily were also strong at the back and didn’t afford the Dollar attack much time on the ball. Emily, Bea and Lily in the midfield worked hard, kept our width and structure and proved very effective in assisting in attack and defence. Up front, Olivia and Jemima proved a constant thorn in the Dollar side and thoroughly deserved their moments of glory.
So, a super all-round performance and a timely boost ahead of next week’s trip to Belhaven. Next week, the game is a Hallhill astro and we’re aiming for a slightly earlier start of 1415.
