St. Mary’s-5: Cargilfield-4

Captain: Aleshya (the birthday girl!)

What a match – a real ‘match’ in the true sense of the word. From the whistle the ball moved rapidly from one end to the other with both teams having numerous unsuccessful shots on goal – credit must go to the goal keepers as they were kept busy, and both very adept at their role! Esmee, for St. Mary’s, looked to be in her element, and had spectators been allowed, they would have been impressed to hear that this was her first ever match as GK! Thirteen minutes into the 20-minute half a goal from Sophie saw us lead 1-0 at half-time. The subsequent team chat reminded the girls to keep calm under pressure and play to the whistle, not to what they thought a decision ought to have been.

Fast and determined play in the early part of the second half suddenly saw us 5-0 up with goals from Martha x 3 and Mary. A lesson to the girls here, was ‘never take your eye off the game!’ for in true Cargilfield style, the hosts fought back and before we knew it they had netted the ball four times.

This was a tremendous display of Under 11 hockey from both teams and the score could have gone either way, it tipped in our favour this time but we cannot afford to rest on our laurels and there is much to be worked on in training.

Very well played girls… up Dollar (MY alma mater!)
