U11A Cricket v Belhaven

2nd June 2021

The U11s had their first taste of competitive cricket this week with our away match at Belhaven. The boys were very excited as this was the first match for over two years for most and first ever for a few. It was a lovely sunny day in Dunbar and great conditions for cricket.

We won the toss and elected to bat first. We made a steady start to the match and both openers defended their wicket well scoring a few early runs. As we grew into the game our confidence grew and we began to play some shots. We lost a few wickets in the middle of the innings to miscommunication and run outs but this was to be expected in our first game of the year. We finished the innings well reaching a score of 86 for 5. A good start.

In the field we started strongly and our bowlers applied some good early pressure. However, as their batsman began to play some shots we showed a little inexperience in the field. A few boundaries were lost cheaply and overthrows not picked up allowing them to score quickly in the middle overs. Belhaven finished with 87 for 3 giving them victory.

Outstanding BatsmanAleks, opening the batting and scoring an impressive 39 runs before being unfortunately run out.
Outstanding BowlerRafe, bowled well throughout his overs and finished the game with a crunching wicket on the last ball of the match.
Outstanding FielderWilliam, active and aware in the field and got a wicket with a fine throw to break the opposition’s opening partnership.

An excellent first outing for this team and plenty to work on for the coming weeks! Well done boys. Bring on next week.

Result – St. Mary’s 86/5   -  Belhaven 87/3.  Belhaven win by 7 wickets.
