11th September 2020

Oh how our world has changed.  Monday morning’s remote assembly requires forms to wave back through the screen to confirm they are able to hear and then I speak to a screen with nine windows of tiny ant sized faces.  In the Morrison Hall, the feet of the Reception pupils usually start to shuffle when their concentration is waning, but I am deprived of this useful gauge in this current format.
Keeping things short and to the point is best, and that is what I did on Monday, when reminding pupils of the differences in home interaction compared to how they should address those teaching and supporting them here at school.  We have been impressed by the response.
Syllabus Information sessions also took place remotely, and staff reported how successful these had been.  I hope you; our parents agree that these sessions allowed you to have many questions answered and that you feel well informed of your sons and daughters curriculum for the term and academic year ahead.
Sadly, Mr P had succumbed to a cold, having been on the Eildon Hills to carry out some Geography fieldwork study with Form 8 and Mr Brown the previous Friday.  The necessary precautions were taken and having returned fit, well and Covid 19 free, Mr P and also Dr Morgan and myself will facilitate the Form 8 syllabus session this coming Monday.
I mentioned last week about the hustle and bustle of a busy and growing boarding community as the week progressed.  This week we have seen 12 new boarders join the group which is excellent news and rewarding for the boarding team who enjoy organising and taking part in the evening activity programme.
Ahead of the weekend, I wish Anna B the very best of luck as she is representing St. Mary’s in the National Schools Equestrian Association in Selkirk tomorrow and Sunday.  This is some compensation for Anna, who had been selected to represent Scotland in a home international Tetrathlon competition in Ireland, which has now been postponed.
Finally, on Mr P’s return, we were able to announce this year’s Heads of School as Josh and Mabel.  Deputy Heads of School are Archie D and Kate.  Further prefect roles will be finalised in the coming week.
Enjoy a restful and house party free weekend.
