Parents

24th April 2020

Week 2 of distance learning started with Mr Harvey’s address to the school being available to view on Form Class pages, as well as on the website and app.  It is important for the school community to be able to hear the same message from the Headmaster, thereby starting the week in the customary way.  You will have noticed throughout the week that we have introduced more video and audio clips to enhance the learning experience for the children.  We appreciate the positive comments you have given us regarding this and, as a staff, we continue to learn and adapt to provide the best experience possible for the St. Mary’s community.  Your feedback is vital to us and will continue to be as we work together with you and your children during these challenging times.

Using a platform such as Edmodo allows us as a school to continue sharing and celebrating the considerable talents and efforts of our pupils.  It has been fantastic for Form classes to view and comment on artistic, musical and dramatic pieces which have been shared in subject groups.  The positive encouragement amongst the peer groups is heartening to see.  We are very pleased with the manner in which the children continue to adapt to this new way of learning and the significant progress they are making both in their studies and management of IT resources!

The Accelerated Reader programme continues to operate, with Isaac M in Form 6 being the most recent millionaire.  Perhaps that will spur a few more people on to pick up another book in the hope of a book token arriving via the ether?

This week we were able to share details of the incredible project that Grace B in Form 2 began on April 17th.  Grace has undertaken the task of running a marathon around her garden, to raise funds for local care homes.  Grace, we are very proud of you and your determined spirit.  Should anyone wish to donate to Grace’s fundraising, details are available on the school website and app.

We hope this message finds you all healthy and ready for a weekend with perhaps less screen time than the weekdays are allowing us at present.  Do take care and keep well.

Miss McRae
on behalf of Mr Harvey
