St. Mary's U11B Football v Fettes

On Wednesday our U11 B welcomed Fettes to the school for our final football match of the term. Playing conditions were soft underfoot, and although dry it was cold on the hands for the keepers.

The match started well for St. Marys as they kept in shape and moved the ball about well. Players were getting heads up and looking to make a pass to a team-mate. As a result, we kept Fettes on the move. After a proper soaking by the weather, which included sleet and hail, we went on to score 2 goals. The second one being very easy on the eye as several players combined with a succession of passes to set the strike up. However, Fettes were making their own contribution to the game and were rewarded with a well taken goal before halftime. St. Marys perhaps edged the half in terms of shots on goal and possession, but at 2-1 the match was there to be won by both teams.
After the restart a great ball into the box from wide out allowed our striker to prod home. This was followed up soon after by another good team goal. Fettes managed to steady the ship though, and came more into possession and territory. St. Marys picked up the pace again and started to tackle robustly to turn over the ball. This allowed them to set up more scoring opportunities as they got the ball into the box once again. Further St. Marys goals followed at steady intervals as Fettes found it challenging to stem the now constant flow of the home attacks. Full time was sounded a little early as the cold was beginning to take its toll. St. Marys ran out winners with a final score of 8-1.
Next week sees a return to rugby for our final fixture of the term, at home to Clifton Hall.
