1st XI Football v Longridge Towers
Wednesday 11th March
On Wednesday our boys took on Longridge towers for their final football match of the season. The boys were excited to get stuck into the opposition and send the form 8s off with a bang.
We were playing an 11 aside game to give as many boys as possible a game time. We started the game well and looked comfortable in defence and communicating well as a team. Longridge had the advantage of the hill in the first half and we found it difficult to get the ball into scoring positions. As the half went on St. Mary’s boys began to tire and a little too much space was given to one of their players who shot from a distance to open the scoring.
Shortly after half time we gave all of the form 8s the opportunity to play in the same team as this would be their last match as a team. With the new personnel we managed to equalise through John T. after a quick counter attack. With the score level we had a spring in our step and looked good. Unfortunately, we struggled to clear the ball in our box and we leaked two late goals.
Well done to the lads for a very enjoyable and entertaining football season.
Score - Longridge 3 - 1 St. Mary’s
Scorers – John T.
Man of the match – Ted M., who was tireless in defence and a real leader at the back.
