U11 A Rugby v Mowden 7's Rugby Festival
Wednesday 11th March
Yesterday we attended the Mowden Hall 7s rugby festival, and the weather was set to become pretty savage around the 1445 mark, so it was fortunate for us that we got most of our fixtures out of the way before the adverse conditions set in.
As a squad we were quite confident going into our fixtures as our wide, flowing style of rugby has proven to be quite effective when playing against English schools in the past, who’s game is much more contact orientated. Our kick re-starts were also strong, with ample pressure being applied to opposition players through lofty, shallow kicks, supported by a combative chase.
However, following the interval when they rain and wind set in, we came up against some stout opposition and our quicker style of rugby was ineffective against teams where a more physical, up-front game was the go-to and we narrowly lost two of our matches.
As the fair weather returned, we found our footing once more to finish with flare and ended the day in traditional Borders style.
I have to commend all the boys for their efforts, some beautiful passing and footwork were on display and there was no lack of courage when faced with tricky challenges. Well done to all involved and a special thanks to relatives who came to support and brave some horrific rain and wind.
