U9's Netball v Loretto

Wed 26th Feb 2020

At last a sunny afternoon and no wind for this week’s match against Loretto albeit a little chilly. Loretto only had one team so the U9s were divided into 2 evenly matched teams to play 2 quarters each.  Loretto won the toss and chose to have first centre pass.  Aleshya, Coco, Hettie, Matilda, Miranda, Lottie and Ophelia were first on court for St Mary’s. The girls started well passing the ball accurately and moving the ball quickly around the court.  They were quick to pick up their opposite position and stay with them, intercepting passes and denying Loretto the opportunity to move the ball into their attacking third.  The link between the St Mary’s defence and attack worked well and the GS and GA took every opportunity to shoot, scoring a goal in both quarters, St Mary’s finished 2 goals ahead at half time.

The ‘second half team’ of Esmee, Imogen, Kirsten, Martha, Megan, Meisha and Sophie took to the court and dominated the 3rd quarter, scoring 4 goals in quick succession, the defence remained focussed but had little to do.  The players switched positions at the end of the quarter with the defence moving into the GS and GA positions.   During the final quarter the teams were evenly matched and play switched between teams, with the girls having to change from an attacking stance to a defence one quickly.  No further goals were scored.
Final score St Mary’s 6 – Fettes 0

Well played: Aleshya, Coco, Hettie, Matilda (2), Miranda, Lottie and Ophelia, Esmee, Imogen, Kirsten, Martha (2), Megan(C), Meisha and Sophie (2).
