U11C v Fettes Prep School

On a wet and windy Wednesday afternoon, the mighty St. Mary's U11Cs put in a superb performance against a decent Fettes Prep School side.

The home side was ably captained by Dino and comprised a back three of Henry, Dougal and George F behind a midfield of Fred, George G and the captainwith Ruairi and Andrew up front. Rufus was a reassuring pair of hands in goal.

With a shrill pheep of Mr Rawson's whistle, the match kicked off and, from the very start, it was clear that the Undies Cs were on fire. Slick passing in the midfield unleashed Andrew up the right wing and he skipped past a number of tacklers as he tiptoed down the touchline tightrope before cutting back in to unleash a venemous shot past the unfortunate Fettes keeper.

This set the tone for the afternoon as the boys bossed the centre of the park before threading balls through the stramash to find the two strikers lurking. There was also no lack of defensive grit shown by a rapidly rotated back three. They tackled well and left the keeper chilling between the posts twiddling his thumbs inside his cosy gloves.

When it's cold, you need energy and this gang had it in abundance; spraying passes around the pitch and tackling solidly.

Fettes did not give up and, despite the weather and the tough opposition, they managed to force the ball upfield. There was no need for VAR as the trigger-happy referee pointed straight to the spot. The ball was lashed in past the keeper to spark celebrations from both teams.

The Fettes boys should be commended for their excellent attitude and the way that they, like the home side, dealt with the atrocious weather condition stoically.

Well done, boys!

Final Score: St. Mary's U11C 8 - 1 Fettes Prep School
