1st VIII Football v Mowden Hall and Fettes

On Wednesday we were visited by both Mowden hall and Fettes for a triangular fixture at St. Mary’s. Due to the high volume of home matches we were lucky enough to be playing on the 3G pitch at the Greenyards. The boys were very excited and despite the cold and rain couldn’t wait to get going.
In the first match Fettes took on Mowden hall where both teams played well with Mowden hall winning the match 3-1.

In the second match St. Mary’s took on Mowden Hall and despite the cold both teams tried to play good football with lots of passing and movement off the ball. We dominated the possession and created some good chances early on. The boy in goal for Mowden Hall pulled off a few superb saves to deny us and we were caught out after a quick counter attack making the score 1-0. The remainder of the match followed a similar pattern as the Mowden goal was peppered with shots and each one was beaten away by their outstanding keeper. Despite playing some lovely football we lost the game.

Score -  Mowden Hall 1 - 0 St. Mary’s

In the final match of the triangle we played Fettes and by this point both sets of players were feeling the cold and energy levels were toiling. However, the boys rallied and worked extremely hard scoring a few good early goals. Fettes had a few good chances and pulled a goal back to make the score 3-1. Our boys were a little complacent and took their foot off the gas allowing Fettes to bring the score back to 3-2. After a few more missed chances we closed the game out and everyone ran for cover to escape the conditions.
Our boys played well in both matches and it was great to see them all enjoying playing football with each other and picking up our first win of the season. Bring on next week.

Score -  Fettes 2 - 3 St. Mary’s
Scorers – Ollie dG x2, John I.

Man of the match – Ted M. Who was commanding at the back, controlling our defence and pushing forward well in both matches.
