St. Mary's U11 Band C V Merchiston

Wednesday 22nd Jan

On Wednesday our B’s and C’s entertained Merchiston in a Triangular on an afternoon where the weather was very kind to us. The 2 B teams played first of all. Our visitors had the better of the opening minutes, but St. Marys defended well to make sure nothing was conceded. We started to get to grips with the game in attack now as we had more territory. However, just as we enjoyed that, Merchiston broke up field and scored a well taken goal. Play continued fairly evenly, though Merchiston edged it on territory. Both teams had chances to score, but it was Merchiston who added a second. St. Marys could, and should, have closed the gap but a shot was dragged passed the post. With time running out, Merchiston put together a smooth passing play which culminated in a shot and a further goal.

Merchiston rested for the next match with our B’s and C’s playing. This turned out to be an entertaining game as both teams strove to put one over on the other! It was the C’s who struck first which in turn put energy into the B’s. The C’s though continued to press forward, but the B’s broke up the field and levelled before the c’s could cover. Soon after, the B’s had the best sweeping move of the afternoon to go into the lead. With time running out though, the C’s equalized for a deserved draw!

The final match was now Merchiston and the C’s. An early Merchiston goal knocked us back a little, but we dragged ourselves into the game and gained more territory and possession. We had a couple of chances but couldn’t convert which could have made matters interesting. But it was Merchiston who added a second, and near the end closed proceedings with a third. However, the C’s had acquitted themselves well.
Next week both teams are at home, with the B’s playing Mowden Hall and the C’s Fettes.
