U9s v Cargilfield

Wednesday 20th November 2019

U9 Rugby Wed 20 Nov 19
The Under 9 rugby squad on Wednesday played an away match against Cargilfield one of the strongest U9 teams on the school circuit in what has been St Marys best performance so far this term
Playing 2 periods of 12 minutes both teams gave everything, tackling very well and contesting for the ball at every opportunity. Both periods were very keenly contested with some fine hard tackles going in from both sides. St Marys scored first with Cargilfield quickly responding and this set the tone for the rest of the game, neither team getting more than 2 scores in front with the lead changing hands on a regular basis. The Score at half time was 5 scores a piece.
The second period like the first was a very close encounter with both teams playing some fine rugby and displaying good rugby skills. For much of this period St Marys were having to defend their try line and had it not been for some sound defence Cargilfield could have scored a lot more points.  Both sets of players displayed good team work, through clear communication, sound support play and near perfect off loads.  The final score a 9-8 victory for our hosts, disappointed in losing but very proud of the performance.
Credit to all the players for the effort they are putting in not just in our matches but also in our games sessions, team work now starting to show through. Well done to all involved and thanks again to the parents for their support and encouragement.
