U10 hockey v Cargilfield
Wednesday 25th 2019
St Mary’s 1, Cargilfield 3
Captain - Lily
The girls were buzzing with excitement as we hosted our first match of the new season today at Tweedbank. It was lovely to see so many parent supporters and the rain not making an appearance.
Our visitors won the toss and we quickly prepared for our 8-aside match. The fact that Cargilfield played with a goalie did not dampen our spirits. Cargilfield scored early on in the first half but St, Mary’s fought back and scored just before the half time whistle to equalise.
We sadly had no Amelia today but thankfully, Mahi stepped in and supported the U10’s. Everyone played their best, which was great for team building and morale of our Under 10 squad after a long summer. I was pleased to see players speed around the pitch and try out new positions along with trying to stick to one side of the pitch and work together as a team.
Cargilfield had a strong team and our defence had to work hard to get the ball up the pitch. We made some good attempts at scoring but having a goalie made it more difficult for the girls. Cargilfield scored twice in the second half giving the final score of 3-1 to them.
Today was a great start to our season and I am impressed with the commitment and enthusiasm today.
Well done, what a fabulous start! What a great afternoon with a lovely group of well-mannered young girls.
Next week, Compass at Tweedbank
