U9 Triangular v Loretto and Cargilfield

Wednesday 22nd May

This week we again travelled to Musselburgh to play a triangular match against Loretto and Cargilfield.  We’d already played Loretto this season and narrowly beaten them however Cargilfield were an unknown quantity as our last match against them was cancelled due to bad weather.
The matches were played over one inning of 30 good balls.  Loretto played Cargilfield first and lost 4 to 11 ½ rounders.  The St Mary’s girls watched the match with interest observing both teams’ tactics.
Our first match was against Cargilfield, Charlotte won the toss and chose to field first. The St Mary’s U9s fielded well, quickly passing the ball back to the bowler or 2nd post to, however a few fielding errors allowed Cargilfield to score a number of ½ and 2 full rounders and they finished the innings on 8 ½ rounders.  Inconsistency in the St Mary’s batting reduced the number of opportunities to score and quick fielding by Cargilfield also saw 3 players stumped out.  The girls did scored 2 full rounders however finished the innings with a total of 7.

In the second match against Loretto St Mary’s again won the toss and chose to field first.  Lessons learnt from the first match were taken in board and the fielding was more efficient with accurate throws and super stops by the deep fielders.  Loretto scored 2 full and 4 half rounders finishing with a total of 4.  St Mary’s came in determined to make contact with the ball and their batting showed a marked improvement, although only scoring one full rounder they maximised on fielding errors by their opposition to score 6 half rounders.  Final result St Mary’s 5 ½ - Loretto 4.
Charlotte, Kira ( ½ ) , Amelia (1 ½), Abigail, Beatrice (1 ½ ), Hannah,  Jemima (1), Mathilda (1 ½ ), Tallulah, Tanya (1).
Cargilfield 11 ½ - Loretto 4
St Marys’ 7       -  Cargilfield 8 ½
St Mary’s 5 ½   -  Loretto 4

Well done girls.
