U11A Cricket v Longridge Towers

On Wednesday afternoon we played a friendly fixture on the back fields against Longridge Towers. It was the perfect opportunity to give some young Undies tyros a good go in a limited overs game (12 overs each way).

We elected to bat first and a revolving carousel of batsmen came in, scored briskly and were then retired meaning that all 11 boys had a chance to face some of the Longridge bowling.

We finished on 79 after 12 overs leaving Longridge Towers with a mountain to climb.

They duly set off into the foothills but were repulsed by some accurate bowling the sort of fielding that makes the boundary seem a very long way away.

What was most encouraging was the way that the Form 5 s really got stuck in in the field. Bowling was tight and there were some very good catches taken including a corker by Lochie and two more outstanding run-outs by Ewan.

Overall, this was a most encouraging game for the St. Mary's U11A team. Our visitors should be commended for their good spirits and excellent attitude.
