St. Mary’s School U13 v Longridge Towers

We had managed to get this fixture changed from a football to a rugby match which the boys were all pleased about. Unfortunately our front pitch was still waterlogged so we were forced down to the back pitches. We were also without a few of our heroes from last week as Archie was ill and Caelen was injured. This left us with 12 players and as Longridge had 18 we decided to take three of their boys and get everyone playing. The boys were excited and keen to get stuck in after last week’s performance.

We kicked off and spent the first few minutes defending. We stuck to our systems well and eventually forced the turnover. Longridge had some big lads and were effective in stopping our runners in the middle of the pitch. Despite Thomas and Ollie E making some good line breaks we were unable to get over their line. To their credit the Longridge boys defended well and eventually snaffled the ball back. As the half went on both teams exchanged scores and it was 14-7 at the break.

In the second half some tiredness began to show and some missed tackles followed seeing Longridge pull away with a few soft scores. John impressed throughout the half with strong runs and great vision to add to his try in the first. Although we managed a late score we just weren’t at the races today and have lots to work on for next week.
Score: St Mary’s 14 – Longridge 36
Man of the Match: John
