U9 Netball v Belhaven

Netball v Belhaven 3

After last week’s match being cancelled due to the cold weather the U9 team were pleased to find out that they were playing indoors this week.

We unfortunately lost the toss and Belhaven had first centre pass, the St Mary’s girls were slow to start, failing to pick up their opposite numbers and Belhaven quickly moved the ball into their ‘D’ and scored.  When we got the ball we struggled to move into space and move the ball into our attacking third.  Belhaven dominated the first quarter finishing 2 goals ahead.  We came back in the second quarter a little more focussed, movement around the court was better, the girls remained closer to their opposite number, and we moved the ball to the St Mary’s GA who scored.  Unfortunately we allowed Belhaven to dominate play and their GS scored 2 goals in quick succession.

The girls remained positive and came into the third quarter determined to even the score, the teams appeared more evenly matched and both teams scored 2 goals. The fourth quarter saw the St Mary’s girls starting to work more as a team, attempting to utilise set play practiced during games, which resulted in them scoring another goal and denying Belhaven the opportunity to increase their total.
Final result St Mary’s 4 – Belhaven 6
Despite being inside it was still extremely cold in the sports hall and the girls all rose to the challenge and remained positive throughout the match. Focus for next week’s practice session is ‘Catching’!!!!!!
