U9A and B v Cargilfield

Wednesday 16th Jan 2019

For the first game of the season we travelled away to Cargilfield, this was their first visit for a number of the Form 3 girls and the main discussion on the bus was what they might get for match teas. It's was a very cold afternoon but as always the girls focussed on the match and not how chilly it was.
Due to time constraints it was agreed to play 3 periods of 6 minutes for each match.P56
p55The U9A team of Mathilda, Beatrice, Aleshya, Jemima M, Hannah, Kira and Lily took their places on court after Kira (Captain) lost the toss and choose which end to shoot.  Cargilfield started strongly and quickly got the ball to their GS who proved to be extremely accurate and scored.  We failed to utilise our centre pass and Cargilfield continued to dominate the first period scoring another 3 goals.  Towards the end of this period St Mary’s managed to get the ball to their GS who successfully scored.  In the second period St Mary’s began to move the ball around the court, finding space, but failed to pass it into their attacking D however they prevented Cargilfield from passing the ball into their GS, finishing the second period on the same score it had started.  Despite cold hands the girls remained determined during the final third, passing the ball to their GA who scored.  A slight lapse in concentration saw Cargilfied score another 2 goals.  Final score Cargilfield 6 – St Mary’s 2.
We have some work to do however I have every confidence in the girls and we are already looking at areas we can work on before our next match at Mowden Hall.
 For many of the U9B

team of, Martha, Sophie, Amelia, Abigail (Captain), Lottie, Miranda and Megan this was their first match.  Abigail won the toss and chose to have the first centre pass, they quickly took advantage of this moving the ball to their GA who quickly score.  This was followed by another goal for St Mary’s by their GS.  Finishing the first period 2 goals in the lead.  During the second period play was more evenly matched between the teams however St Mary’s were more accurate with their shooting scoring another 3 goals.  St Mary’s continued to play well in the 3rd period, moving the ball around the court and quickly switching from a defensive to attacking position when required.  Despite some excellent defensive work by the GD and GK Cargilfield managed to score but St Mary’s responded quickly by scoring again.  Final score St Mary’s 6 – Cargilfield 1.
Very well played girls.
