U9 V Mowden Hall

28 November 2018
Hats off to the U9 team, they played hockey today in torrential rain and I didn’t hear one word of complaint.  Well done girls.
The decision was taken to play 2 halves of 10 minutes due to the bad weather and to play 9 a side, we were due to play 8 a side but as both Mowden Hall and St Mary’s had a substitute, it enabled all the girls to be on the pitch for the full match.

St Mary’s won the toss and chose first push back, the St Mary’s girls quickly went on the attack and dominated the play.  Some super tackling and passing saw the ball hit into the D, though unfortunately despite a number of shots on goal, we were unable to score.  On the rare occasion that Mowden Hall managed to clear the ball it was quickly intercepted by the defence and passed to the forwards.  The first half finished without any goals being scored despite our best effort.
During the second half we again, as in previous matches, continued to dominate the play but were unable to break through the Mowden Hall defence. Mowden Hall staged a couple of attacks however the St Mary’s defence were quick to tackle and clear the ball from our danger area. Towards the end of the second half the St Mary’s mid field hit some fantastic balls to the forwards in the D who were unlucky not to score.  Final score 0 – 0.

Well done St Mary’s you showed real tenacity and resilience in such challenging conditions.

Well played Abigail, Aleshya (Captain), Beatrice, Jemima, Kira, Lily, Mathilda, Martha (Captain) and Sophie.
