Another belter of a game, after which I felt exhausted! A roller-coaster of elation from watching some superb hockey and frustration at watching us concede moments after scoring. Chatting afterwards to the supporting parents, we agreed that Dollar were a skilful and impressive side, but yet again, our work rate on the pitch and unity in all areas, earned us a very commendable draw.

As with the 2nds, this game was played at a frenetic pace. Free hits were taken quickly, side-line hits allowed no time for regaining breath and so by half time the girls were somewhat red-faced! We took the lead after about five minutes, courtesy of Mhairi’s acute sense of positioning. Dollar equalised and then took the lead, only for Hannah to break free from the defence and beat the goalie at her near post. We thought we would then go into the half time break at 2-2 but a superb run and strike from the Dollar centre-mid, gave the visitors the lead, on the stroke of half time.

In the second half we again pressurised the Dollar defence which eventually lead to an equalising goal from Mhairi; nothing more than the girls had earned. However, pleased to be back on level terms, the girls were caught napping and within seconds of the restart, Dollar took the lead again. However, not be outdone, Hannah and her term found another gear and with a couple of minutes to go a deflected shot from Hannah beat the keeper to give us our 4th goal of the afternoon.

We very nearly stole the winner seconds before the final whistle, but Mhairi’s shot whizzed over the top of the goal.
This was another brilliant and resilient performance. Following some good games for the 2nds, Kiki earned her first cap for the 1sts and had a good game. Supported by Molly at the back and Anna in goal, they were only beaten by two deflected shots and a couple of moments of brilliance from the Dollar team. Again, Eliza, Rosie and Emma worked their socks off in the midfield and deserve enormous credit for the miles they must have covered. Hannah and Mhairi up front kept their composure and made the most of their opportunities.

Following the defeat at Dollar last year, it felt good to hold our own today. This good Dollar side were kept at bay by the hard work and sheer determination of this team. Fantastic!

Next week we are at Belhaven, starting at 2.00pm at Hallhill.
