U8/9 Rugby v Loretto

 Wednesday 26th Sept

The U8 and U9 rugby squads welcomed Loretto to St Marys on Wednesday and played out three very entertaining games of rugby all played on the main St Marys pitch in front of a very large support.

Unfortunately Loretto were only able to bring 2 teams but we still managed to involve all of the St Marys U8 & 9 squads all 21 of them.

First up were the Lions who played the Loretto U9 "B" team in a game of touch rugby in what was a close encounter, the Lions running out winners by 4 points to 2. Some very good passing and running by both teams kept the game flowing end to end, thanks to Stefan Rooney for game coaching the match.

On the adjacent U9 pitch the Panthers and the Lions played two matches against the  Loretto "A" team. Panthers playing first scoring 3 points but unfortunately allowing Loretto to score 6, not hard to work out that we will be practicing our tackling skills in our next games session! but the Panthers never gave up and played some nice attacking rugby. Well done.

The Lions were next up playing some good running rugby scoring 6 points and only conceding 4. All games were played at a fast pace with direct passing and good communication between the players along with silky evasion skills, so lots of positives to take from the matches but still lots to work on.

Well done again to all the players who are making good progress in our training sessions and for their commitment in the matches.  Thanks to the large support for coming along and to Mr Bell for his hard work in keeping the pitches at St Marys in great condition and not forgetting the  Dinning room staff for the match teas.
