The team were so excited for their first match of season, and I was too! On a beautiful sunny day at Goldenacre, we arrived to play Heriots. We didn’t get as much time to warm up as we would have liked, but that didn’t deter the girls; St Mary’s won the toss and we chose the pass back. It was obvious from the start that we were up against a strong opposition, with an early goal from Heriots, but once the girls settled into their positions, and communication picked up, the game started to flow and an excellent goal was scored by us.   Some inaccurate passes meant that Heriots were quick to intercept, and this certainly cost us another 2 goals, in the first half. After a quick team chat, at half time, the girls stepped up a gear. Their marking and quick ball taking gave them several more opportunities to score, but sadly Heriots defence were just too strong today.  St. Mary’s worked their socks off, in particular our defence showed tremendous determination.  I was so proud of this team today, playing together for the first time, every girl was smiling! We will work on those skills identified, girls, before taking on Kilgraston next week.
Well Done to Hannah F, Kiki, Daisy, Libby, Emma S-W, Imo, Iona and Elena.
