U9B Rounders v Cargilfield

Wednesday 23rd

Following a defeat from Fettes, we were determined to get back to winning ways. Cargilfield came down with 12 girls and St. Marys only had 9, but we got on with it by playing 24 balls per innings so each Cargilfield girl got the chance to bat twice. The weather conditions were perfect and the pitch lines were freshly sprayed. Cargilfield won the toss

and chose to field first, which meant St. Marys had to bat and the girls racked up a good score of 4 and a half. In the second innings

when St. Marys batted, the girls scored 4 and a half again, which was very encouraging. The final result was St. Marys winning by 9 rounders to 5 and a half.

Going through the team Abigail K got on the score sheet with the first hit of the match, and in the field she was eager to chase after the ball if the ball went past her. Amelia’s batting was very promising as she hit a full rounder in the 1st innings and a half in the 2nd. Beatrice bowled superbly as out of th

e 48 balls she bowled, she didn’t give away any 1/2 rounders through no balls. And Beatrice also hit a full rounder in the 2nd innings. Bee was our skipper for the match and she led by example w

ith great etiquette and leadership, and was also very alert as when she ran off her post to field a ball she then ran back to her post and was able to stump 2 girls out from this method. Hannah took the position of 3rd post, a crucial position that makes the difference between an out, 1/2 rounder or full rounder, Hannah was full of encouragement and was always watching the ball, when one of Cargilfield’s big hitters stepped up and hit the ball sweetly, Hannah was there to stop it going into the outer reaches

of the pitch. Kira suffered a bit of a tumble when she was running to one of the posts in the 1st innings, nevertheless Kira carried on and she hit 2 half rounders in the first innings and one half rounder and one full rounder in the 2nd innings. Mahi was placed at 1st DF which she fulfilled with flying colours as  she was very cautious when the ball came bobbling along the ground so she put her foot behind her hand in case she missed it. Mathilda was our back stop today and she put her body on the line to stop that ball from going past. Mathilda also had her classic set piece with Bee when there was a backwards Mathilda would take her time to get the ball to Bee as quickly as possible. Tanya performed splendidly at the first post and she stayed in tune with the flow of the game, Tanya was able to make an influence on the St. Marys total with half a rounder in the 2nd innings, due to Tanya’s very good hand eye coordination she was able to react quickly and stump a Cargilfield girl out at the 1st post.
