U11B v Fettes College Prep School

On Wednesday afternoon the mighty U11Bs took on Fettes out on the Back Fields.

It was a blazing hot day and both teams were clearly up for the contest.

We fielded a strong team of Isaacs B & S, Torquil, Jack, Robbie, Ollie dG, Tristan and Simon led by Vice Captain Alexander NN and Captain John T. Our visitors put us in to bat and we set about the Fettes bowling attack with wild abandon. Isaac B and Ollie dG crushed the ball out to the boundaries and we built a big score. This was somewhat undermined by some soft dismissals and some good Fettes catches but we still felt that the target of 129 could be defended.

And so it proved as the St. Mary's attack took it to the Fettes batsmen. They could not deal with the pace of Isaac B, Captain JT, Robbie or Ollie and were bamboozled by the erratic spin and bounce of Torquil, Isaac S, Jack and Tristan. Simon suspect action also supplied a sumptuous over that was best decribed as "Malinga-esque" as he skittled a Fettes batsman in the final over.

This wicket coupled with a superb reaction catch from Ollie dragged down the high score set by Fettes and ultimately led to a one run victory for the home side.

Well done boys!
