U13B v Merchiston

Wednesday 25th April

The cricket season duly got underway on Wednesday, and in typical Scottish fashion the heavens opened just as we were about to start play! Soaked to the skin, and cold with the wind howling, we trooped back to the school alongside Merchiston our visitors and got battered by hail as we went.

After a lengthy delay, we finally got going in this coached pairs game. Everyone got a bowl, and almost all got a bat before time beat us. Bowling was pleasing as we by and large achieved our aim of keeping line in our deliveries. Batting today was difficult in the conditions as many balls simply did not lift off the ground. The fact there wasn’t one catching opportunity for either side bore testament to this. Our fielding was keen with plenty of encouragement being given amongst the players which was good to see.

Thank you to Merchiston for coming down to play some cricket, and despite the weather it was good to make a start to the season. Hopefully next week playing conditions will have improved with the sun shining.
