U11B Cricket v Merchiston

Merchiston: 217 runs

St Mary’s: 222 Runs

As is tradition in Scotland for the start of the cricket season, we were greeted with a torrential downpour which didn’t look like it was going to stop. However, eventually the sun reappeared and the first U11B fixture took place….and what a start! Selected as captain in his first ever game of cricket John T won the game of “rock, paper, scissors” and put Merchiston into bat. With John and Tristan B opening the bowling and did a great effort restricting the Merchiston openers to only 8 runs off the first two overs. The first bowling change came and Oliver DG and Jack H stepped up with some accurate bowling to keep things tight and Oliver claiming the first wicket of the season! Next up to bowl was Isaac S and Robert L, who both continued with the tight bowling that their teammates had done before them. A moment of magic from Isaac S came when he bowled and an absolute peach of a delivery which went under the bat and knocked over the stumps to claim his first ever wicket! More excellent bowling followed from Henry S and Isaac B, with Isaac also claiming another wicket. The bowling was wrapped up by Torquil H and another over from John T to keep Merchiston to a low score.

The same bowling pairs batted together and put on some show! Everyone gave everything they had to chase down the total they needed. With big shots coming from Oliver DG and Henry S and everyone else contributing along the way, the St Marys boys reached the desired total in the last over.

A very well done to all the boys in the team, especially as this was the first game of the season. The man of the match this week goes to Tristan B. Not only for his contribution with both bat and ball but also for the way he constantly encouraged the boys throughout the game!
