U9 Rounders v Mowden Hall

April 25th 2018

The first match of the season saw the U9 girls travelling to Northumberland.  The drive there was very wet and the girls were motivating themselves to play in the wet and cold.  Where is the sun!

We arrived to find sun trying to shine, hooray, and the decision was taken to play on the Astro pitch as the grass was very wet.
We had 12 girls and Mowden Hall 11 so both coaches agreed to allow 11 to bat per innings of 22 good balls, whilst 9 fielded.  Team Captain Olivia

won the toss and elected to field first.

In the first innings both teams batted and fielded well, with some strong hits from a number of the girls.  St Mary’s scored 5 rounders to Mowden’s 4. The St Mary’s girls fielded well, thinking before throwing the ball and stumping out 3 of the Mowden players, whilst when batting, St Mary’s ran well, though we did lose 3 players who were also stumped out.

The second innings followed a similar pattern to the first and it was pleasing to see St Mary’s putting into practice tactics learnt during games lessons, with minimal miss-fielding and some good decision making. The final result was 10 ½ - 9 to St Mary’s.  A super start to the season.

Well done girls.
