St. Mary's 2nds v Craigclowan 2nds

Wednesday 7th March 2018

STM 2nds v Craigclowan 2nds
Final Score: 14 – 2

Team work. That is at the crux of all sports like netball, and yesterday it certainly played the biggest part in the 2nds match against Craigclowan. The match had been moved into the Sports Hall so it could 100% go ahead which was a relief, as it felt like a long time since the girls had been out on a netball court. After a long journey and little time to warm up as the U11s played before us, the girls had to just get on with it and try to get into the swing of things. Delightedly, they did!

Hannah C and Freya were rather daunted by the height of the goal posts which were higher than we normally play with at St. Mary’s. However, they absolutely rose to the challenge and started popping them in right from the first third. On the whole, we were slightly lax with our movement off the ball in the first third, and needed to focus on where our markers were and how to get around or in front of them. However, this was much improved in the second third and Lucy and Maria were intercepting many of Craigclowan’s attempts to get the ball to their shooters, hindering their chances at a goal.

In the centre of the court, Eliza, Mhairi and Rosie were working very well as a team to move the ball up the court. Footwork was slick and communication excellent. Almost every centre pass was a success and the whole team were really on their toes and focused on keeping possession as much as possible. The aim in the final third was to keep control of the game by retaining possession and ensuring the pace of the game did not run away with either team. The girls did so well to do this and although Craigclowan by no means made it easy for them as they had some great players and moments of attack, the St. Mary’s girls kept gelling more and more and came out on top.

Well done girls. It’s never easy travelling so far and not having long to warm up, but you did a fantastic job and should be very proud of your win.
