U13B v Fettes

On Wednesday afternoon the mighty U13Bs, also known as Spartak St. Mary's, took on the might of the Fettes hordes on Ferry Road.

Starting with the classic back three of Hamish, Fergus and Dicken and with Antony, Callum and Archie Mac in the midfield we were confident that we would have the ball to feed William Mac and the viper-like Jake upfront. Mac was a very safe pair of hands in goal. Our numbers were also bolstered by two enthusiastic players on a loan-deal from Fettes.

The defence were imperious throughout with Dicken hoofing the ball upfield with agricultural aplomb, Hamish adding some deft touches and Fergus an impenetrable wall of flailing arms and legs. Mac made save after crucial save.

In the centre of the park Callum, Archie and Antony tackled well and were just unlucky to thread the ball through to the lurking William and Jake. However, chances fell to both William and Jake that we were just unable to convert. The former nearly scored with an absolute screamer direct from the corner that was just held out by a flailing hand from a defender. Antony bludgeoned the resulting penalty straight at the keeper who stood firm.

William Mac then followed his corner strike with a curling toe-poke from an indirect free kick. The keeper was just tall enough to keep it out of the top left corner. Jake followed this with a strike of his own that rattled off an upright. In fact, we seemed able to hit every part of the goal but the net.

Fettes, unfortunately, had more luck and converted two of their chances to win the game.

Overall, this was a well balanced contest with Fergus voted unanimously as the team's Man of the Match for his stalwart defence.

Bring on Loretto!
