3rd VII Netball v Belhaven

Belhaven 5, St. Mary’s 10
The squad: Phoebe (c), Ruby, Amelie, Libby, Emma, Lucy M, Anna, Hannah F and Molly C

This was a great encounter between two fairly well matched sides. Both teams had some girls who were new to the game, but even for the more experienced, this was a good chance to have a run about and show how much they’ve come on since the beginning of the month.
The first quarter saw both teams enjoy good spells of possession and I was delighted to see the St. Mary’s girls pass the ball about so efficiently and retain possession so well. Cold hands and quite a slippery ball made things harder than they might have been but unperturbed, the girls were very focused and clearly very determined. Despite our possession throughout the first two quarters, opportunities at goal were few and far between. That said, Hannah, Molly and Anna each had a go at playing either GS or GA and all shot really well.
Amelie, Libby, Daisy and Phoebe at one point were all occupying central positions and they started to control the game. Some quick passing and great movement off the ball allowed them to dominate and get the better of their opposite numbers. Lucy and Ruby both played at the back and had their work cut out trying to stay tight to their markers. I was pleased to see both girls enjoy time on the ball and make good use of the possession they gained.
As the girls took to the court for the final quarter, they knew that a solid 10 minutes would see them through and they produced just that. They continued to work hard off the ball and fight to gain possession. Again some great shooting from Molly and Anna saw their team edge further ahead and ultimately though to a great win.
Very well done girls. This was a great performance today and I thoroughly enjoyed umpiring.
