U13 Football v Merchiston

 Wednesday 31th Jan

After the snow arrived and prevented the match (and school) going ahead last week, the boys were very happy that this week the snow had melted and a game could go ahead.  Merchiston made their way down to the Borders despite the potential closing of roads due to heavy rainfall, and the game did not disappoint.

Both teams set out to play attacking football with shots firing in from all angles; both keepers were kept busy from start to finish.  However, it was St. Mary's that got on the score sheet first with a well-taken shot from Will.

The ball kept going from end to end with both teams creating very close chances but it wasn’t long until it was half time, with St. Mary's leading 1-0.
Merchiston kicked into action almost straight after the whistle went, albeit a very lucky goal got them started. The ball had certainly picked up a lot of water
and it very slowly slipped out of Ollie C’s hands and crossed over the goal line.

Merchiston got their second goal very soon after, and from this point the attack came only from the St. Mary’s boys. Shot after shot the boys started getting ever closer and closer, when finally Will got his second goal of the game to tie the score line. The attacking continued but a third goal just would not come.
This was a massive test of character for the boys, taking the lead and then producing a good fight and contest to tie up the scores. Well-done lads!
On to the next game!
