U9 Rugby v Fettes

 Wednesday 6th December 2017

The Under 9 rugby squad on Wednesday played their last game of this term against Fettes one of the strongest U9 teams on the school circuit at home in what was a very tough test.

Playing 3 periods of 10 minutes the boys gave everything they had, tackling very well and contesting for the ball against some very big opponents. Both the first and second periods were very keenly contested with some fine hard tackles going in from both sides. Fettes scored first with St Marys quickly responding before the visitors scored with the last play of the period making it 2-1.

The second period was a very close encounter with both teams playing some fine rugby and displaying good rugby skills. For much of this period St Marys were having to defend their goal line and had it not been for some sound defence Fettes could have scored a few more points but they only managed to cross the line once. 1-0.

The last period was tough but on this occasion the visitor’s proved too strong running in a further 5 tries. All of the St Mary’s squad got good game time, they showed great courage and never gave up. Biggest Hit of the match went to Blair Adamson …he took out the Referee! And a very well done to Rory Casson who played his first game for St Marys’. This week’s try scorer was Nick Jackson. Credit to all the players for the effort they have put in not just in our matches but also at our games sessions, team work now starting to show through. Well done to all involved and thanks again to all the parents for their support and encouragement.
