1st XI Cricket v Loretto

Wednesday 28th June 2017

1st cricket 28 june

It was another typical Scottish summer’s day (Windy, Cloudy and freezing) in Musselburgh, and thankfully, the rain held off. After a quick discussion between the two captains, St Mary’s went into bat quietly confident. The wicket was quiet spongy and the outfield grass was a bit long, the openers Hamish and Will soon realised that it was going to take some effort to hit the boundaries, and quickly set off getting the score board ticking over with ones and twos. Eventually Hamish fell for six after some very good bowling, which brought Harris to the crease. Harris set about doing what he has done all season with the bat and gave the Loretto captain something to think about with his bowling options and field positions.  The rest of our batsmen did not stick around too long but still supported Harris all the same allowing him to finish his St Marys cricket career with 53 not out, and getting there in some style smashing a 6 off the final ball of the 20 overs. The final total was 100.

After a very quick bit to eat it was soon our turn to take to the field, with Lachlan and Hamish opening the bowling, they knew they had to bowl tight to prevent Loretto getting close to the score. After some very precise deliveries, Lachlan was rewarded with back-to-back wickets, and Hamish soon followed up with one of his own. After a quick change of wicket keeper, Will was brought into bowl by Harris and the team was rewarded with this decision very quickly, his first over finished as a DOUBLE WICKET maiden!

Catch of the day goes to Mauz. With no time to think and standing at mid on the ball was smashed straight at him and rather painfully, it stuck in his hands! Everyone did there bit, to help keep Loretto from getting to their target of 101 and that is credit to the work Mr. P has done with the boys this season.

Special mention to all the boys who played in their final competitive schools match for St. Marys and to the boys who are here next year keep working hard!
