U9B Rounders 17 May

After a wet start to the week and a very damp games lesson on Monday, the weather conditions today were ideal for playing rounders and the U9Bs were looking forward to their match against Fettes.

St Mary’s lost the toss and Fettes chose to field first.  The St Mary’s girls went into bat and their batting practice during games showed with the majority of the team successfully connecting with the ball.  They managed to score a number of half rounders and finished the inning with 2 ½ rounders with the loss of only one player.  Fettes came into bat and St Marys’ fielding skills veered from very good, stumping 5 of the Fettes team out, to poor which resulted in giving away a number of half rounders and  Fettes finishing the first inning with 5 ½ rounders.

The girls came into the second inning determined to narrow the gap, again the majority hit some super balls.  Unfortunately, due to some accurate ball throwing and fielding by Fettes they had only managed to score 3 rounders by the end of the inning levelling the score with Fettes.  Fettes came into bat and demonstrated some excellent batting, hitting long balls, which tested the St Mary’s team ball throwing.  Long hits coupled with miss-fielding allowed Fettes to score 5 rounders.  Winning the match 10 ½ to 5 ½.

The U9B team continue to improve and today they demonstrated a better understanding of the use of tactics; however, more practice is required to ensure accuracy when throwing the ball.

Well played to Ally, Bea, Celia, Emerson (Captain), Harriet, Nicole and Zara.
