Farr Out Challenge 2017

sponsored by Laser Vision Scotland

This year saw the 8th Farr Out Challenge in early May but the first to be sponsored by Laser Vision Scotland, Scotland's leading experts in laser eye surgery, vision correction and cataract surgery. Their kind and generous support enabled us to arrange a wide variety of activities, the sun shone and all the children enjoyed a fabulous day of competition. We were delighted to welcome sixteen teams from around the Borders, north Northumberland and the Lothians to St. Mary’s, in particular Loretto Junior School from Musselburgh and St. Michael’s from Alnwick, both first time participants at the Challenge.

Activities on day included a climbing wall, art & design, (where the children made personalized picture frames for their schools and made and decorated them with flowers made from tissue paper), drama, (where teams were given a choice of plays to act out) and a torture chamber (which included netball, hockey, tennis, football, catching, zorbing & crazy posts). The day finished with all 16 teams meeting on our front field for the grand finale which this year saw the children having to negotiate an obstacle course while carrying water balloons!

With all scores collated at the end of the day, quite remarkably we had 14 teams all tied for 3rd place; Melrose Primary, Belhaven, Stow Primary, Longridge, St. Michael’s Primary, Ednam Primary, Fettes, St. Mary’s gold, Compass, Tweedbank Primary, Channelkirk Primary, St. Peter’s Primary, Loretto Junior School & Lilliesleaf Primary. St. Mary’s green were announced as Runners up leaving Morebattle Primary as this year’s winners. So, a huge congratulations to the team from Morebattle and also to all the teams for competing with such good spirit.

My thanks to all the staff from St. Mary’s for helping to make the day such a success and to the senior pupils from St. Mary’s who helped to host our visitors and to ensure they were made to feel welcome. My final thanks go to Laser Vision Scotland for their generous support.
